Easter for Toddlers: Meaningful activities beyond chocolate bunnies
Children bring joy to the holidays as Easter, with its beautiful colored suits and dresses and the egg hunt on green lawns. But in addition to special suits and looks sweet, what more can parents to give their children a sense of Passover? Here are seven ways to go beyond the Easter holiday and communicate a positive message to your child:
1. Submit an Easter basket to a friend in necessity. Do you know that a child whose parent is deployed? Or maybe a single mother who has three small children? Think a family that knows I could use a little encouragement. Make an Easter basket for the family and deliver it with your child. Your child will learn the joy of giving first hand as he or she gives such a thoughtful basket.
2. Buy candy and give it to a church or community Easter egg hunt. You can explain to your child that sweets not only magically appear in the search for eggs. People have to donate first. Talk to them about the joy of giving and let them have their own egg filled with a special treat for help.
3. Visit an elder in a nursing home nearby. Have your child color an Easter coloring page and submit a resident. Call before you go and ask the Activity Director if a particular resident, he or she would recommend. Ask for better times to come and the appropriate protocol to bring the children. His son is adorable highlight of the day for the elderly!
4. Having an "empty tomb" Egg Hunt. Hide eggs in your backyard or where she would work for a hunt. Fill eggs with stickers, rooms, small toys or candy. Leave an empty egg. Whoever finds empty egg is the grand prize winner. Explain how the Passover is the celebration of the empty tomb, because Jesus rose from the grave the third day. The tomb was empty as the egg. Give the child who found the empty egg grand prix as a dollar bill, plus a toy or ball of ice cream.
5. Print Coloring Easter. Search the Internet for free coloring pages of Jesus on the cross and other images of Easter. Tell your child how much God love and how special it is.
6. Attend an Easter mass. If you go to church regularly or not, Easter is a good time to attend a Christmas celebration. Many churches offer fantastic programs for children from giant Easter egg hunt music specials.
7. Do something special for the host of Passover. If you go to grandma's house for dinner, have your child make her a special card or craft to say thank you. Your host will be touched by the seriousness your child. And if you're hosting, your child can do something small for each of your guests. Favors could be a coloring page, glued popsicle sticks to form a cross, or plastic filled eggs after dinner mint.
When you take a little time to be intentional about Easter with their children, is the holiday will be significant not only them, but to you!
